museum catharijneconvent utrecht

The city of Utrecht with its patron - Saint Martin of Tours - was one of the principal beginning points for the Camino Santiago - about nine months walking from Utrecht - I met a friend of a man who walked from Utrecht to Santiago two years ago. The wonderful Museum housed in the converted Convent of St. Catharine brings together the art and artifacts of Netherlands religious history - Catholic, Protestant and Humanist plus my favorite Madonne (above). A 15 minute walk from the train station - out the shopping center to the tower - right about four blocks. It was first recommended to me by Michele Marincola of the MET's Cloisters in NYC.
